SPITFIRE
(written by Bruce Watson, Jamie Watson and Thomas Kercheval)

Washed up on the shoreline
Burning in the sunshine
Left my pot of gold inside a sunken cartel
Crawling through the debris
Freedom isn’t ever free
Never gonna pay my way out of this hell

Shot down in a hail of gunfire
They swore we would never return
Like the ghost of a lonely Spitfire
We come back just to make the sky burn with life

Lift your eyes.

We’ll light the way
We’ll light the way
We’ll light the way or die

Stranded in a ravine
Shackled to a dead dream
As the fog is lifting on the glen of my soul
Blanket for a long night
Wake up to a fist fight
Time to smoke the hypocrites out of their holes

Set sail on the telegraph wire
Once feared is of no more concern
On the wings of a wounded Spitfire
We bring news that the tide has turned for love

Lift your eyes.

We’ll light the way
We’ll light the way
We’ll light the way or die.

Songs From A Haunted Ballroom

Scottish Punk Icons SKIDS Announce Their First Ever Covers Album and release their version of ULTRAVOX’s “Young Savage!”
Los Angeles, CA

– Veteran punk rock outfit Skids have returned with a powerful new studio album that pays tribute to the band’s hometown venue, the historic Kinema Ballroom in Dunfermline, Scotland. Both a live venue as well as a traditional dance club, the Kinema became a musical and cultural epicenter for the youth in Scotland’s Fife province especially during the late ‘70s, early ‘80s punk rock movement. It would also became the home venue for Skids who played numerous shows at the Kinema as both a support act for such legendary bands as The Clash as well as the headliners for multiple sold-out events.
Now, Skids take a walk down memory lane, performing songs by the bands who influenced them in those early years. Songs From A Haunted Ballroom includes unique and superbly arranged new versions of tracks by The Clash, The Adverts, Ultravox, Sex Pistols, and Magazine PLUS new versions of their own early hits “Into The Valley” and “The Saints Are Coming!”
Today the band unveils the first single from the album, a supercharged version of Ultravox’s “Young Savage.” Skids vocalist Richard Jobson shares the unexpected influence that the stylish, distinctively British new wave band Ultravox had on Skids, saying “John Foxx of Ultravox was cool, handsome and wrote poetry rather than lyrics. He made it ok for the rest of us to be a bit arty. ‘Young Savage’ was a massive hit in the Kinema.”

“I’ve loved working on this album,” Jobson continues, “It reminded me of those early cathartic days, and of course where I came from. The place that made me what I am. I would like to dedicate the album to all of the Punks and Ghosts from the day of The Kinema who like me had their life transformed through a love of music.”

Songs From A Haunted Ballroom will be available on both CD in a deluxe 6-panel digipak and colored vinyl in a gatefold jacket as well as on digital platforms everywhere starting June 4!

Bruce’s 60th Birthday Bash – Livestream Event, 7th March 2021

As you are all no doubt aware, our very own inventor of the seagull turns 60 years young in March. Come and join Bruce and Jamie with Richard Jobson on the 7th March for an acoustic livestream event to celebrate the special occasion.

There will be a mixture of skids songs, stories and 4 or 5 Big Country songs over the course of the evening.

There will be the option for anyone buying a ticket to purchase special “add-ons” that will only be available for this event, including a fashionable 60th BW teeshirt!

If that wasn’t enough, all those who buy a ticket for the livestream will be entered into a draw for the chance to be involved doing some backing vocals on the next Skids album.

Bruce , Jamie and Richard look forward to “seeing” you on the 7th March – Get your tickets here :

Songs From A Haunted Ballroom

There is no doubt that 2020 was challenging, to say the least for everyone. We hope all our friends worldwide are safe and well.

With shows cancelled etc, we have all missed being out on the road sharing our songs and stories with you. Here’s hoping the live shows will return in 2021.

We have made the most of the time during the restrictions and the new covers album is complete. A collection of songs that were a part of our fast evolving world at a great time of social change and musical revolution. Release date for album coming soon. Thanks to everyone for the unwavering love and support and we hope to see you all soon.

We are currently monitoring the ongoing situation regarding Coronavirus and our Bookings Agent is working closely with Promoters and venues with regards our upcoming shows.

These are unprecedented times for all of us and any decisions made have to be in the interest of the fans, the band, crew, venue staff and all of our families. As you are most likely aware, the UK Government has advised against “mass gatherings” and issued guidelines regarding self-isolation and travel. Any decision made regarding shows will be taking all of the above into consideration.

We never like having to cancel shows but we are sure you will understand if shows cannot go ahead over the next couple of months.

This message will also be pinned to the top of the Facebook page and any shows that are cancelled/postponed will be listed below. Please check venues regarding any rescheduling and details of ticket validity etc.

The plan is to update this list on a daily basis as and when we get notice of affected shows.
